Mastering the game of golf entails being able to master the basics of the sports, these include perfecting the golf swing and most of all learning the proper golf grip. If you've been playing golf and yet have not mastered how to grip the golf club properly, it is not yet late for you to learn the proper grip. There are those who simply believe in the phrase, you can't teach an old dog with new tricks, thus, they no longer do anything to correct their grip. This kind of attitude is a big hindrance in trying to improve your golf skills.

There are only two essential things that you should remember in practicing a golf grip, these are;

1. Comfort
If you are comfortable with your golf grip and you can freely swing the club without feeling any discomfort, then you might just be griping the club just right. The first test of having a good grip is whether you are comfortable playing with such a grip or not. There is no point trying to copy the grip of golf masters if you are not comfortable with it.

Remember that a good golf grip can only be decided by the player himself. If a player is comfortable with his golf grip there is a big chance that he can also swing the club with accuracy and perfect power.

2. Firm
The next thing that you should consider is whether you have a firm golf grip or not. Though there are a lot of professional golf players who tend to release their grip after hitting a power shot, such is not really advisable as it can cause harm to onlookers or even to the players. You should always have a firm grip on the golf club. You should always make sure that you maintain the grip on the golf club no matter how powerful your golf swing is.

Now that you know the two essential things that you should consider in learning the proper golf grip, you are already half way done in mastering the game of golf. The next step in having a proper grip is choosing the kind of grip.

There are actually three known types of golf grip. In choosing a grip, remember that the grip must be comfortable yet firm. It should comfortable enough as not to hamper or prevent you from hitting the ball with perfect force and so as to avoid any injuries. It should also be firm enough so that you will be able to really dictate the force of your shot.

The grip is the first basic skill that a golfer must master if he really wants to play the game of golf in a competitive level. Mastering the grip is the initial phase of dominating the game of golf. With a proper golf grip, you will be able to hit the golf ball with extreme accuracy and power. Perfect the grip and you'll be collecting hole in ones in no time.
